PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances) have been widely used to make every-day household products such as clothing, carpet, cleaning products, leather, Teflon^®, paints and more. While most PFAS - Forever Chemicals are no longer manufactured in the US, they are still manufactured internationally and can be imported into the US as chemical compounds, or inside consumer goods. Because of their strong molecular structure these compounds take much longer to break down naturally than other organic chemicals, thus remaining in the environment and in the human body for a very long time. The US EPA requires municipal water suppliers to test for lead, but often the greatest risk comes after treatment.
